Community Paint Out Event

What: A 5-hour paint out event with prizes up to $300

Who: Artists of all skill and experience level - adults above 17 and students 17 years of age and under as of September 30, 2014
Where: Cooper River Park West - Gateway Park and Lower Farnham Park off eastbound Admiral Wilson Boulevard

- Event Schedule
- 9 am - 12 pm Registration at Gateway park. See directions. Your canvas or paper must be stamped before painting begins.
- 10 am - 3 pm Painting at Gateway Park or Lower Farnham Park - Participants must bring their artwork to the registration area by 3 pm for judging and exhibit.
- 3 pm - 4 pm Judging at Gateway Park.
- 3 pm - 4:30 Exhibit at Gateway Park.
- 4 pm Paint Out winners announced and prizes awarded.
- 4:30 pm - 5 pm Artwork and any easels must be picked up (unless the artist indicates they wish to donate the piece to a local nursing home or school)
- Theme
- The artwork must highlight the urban ecology (plant life, foliage, animals, water, etc.) that can be seen in Gateway Park or Lower Farnham Park.
- Originality
- Artwork must be entirely your own and should not resemble anyone else’s piece. If there is a suspicion that the artwork resembles too closely another submitted piece, it will not be considered legitimate and will not be judged.
- Liability
- Every attempt will be made to preserve, secure, and protect all entries submitted, but the contest staff cannot be held responsible for damages or loss of art entries. The placing of art in the exhibition constitutes an agreement on the part of the entrant with conditions herein set forth. The contest staff reserves the right to publish for publicity reproductions of the entries, as well as publishing a calendar of winning entries.
- Guidelines for Artwork
- Contestants must submit a registration and have their canvas or paper stamped; Artists will receive a tag for their artwork
- Contestants must submit only one piece of artwork
- Artwork must be two-dimensional
- The maximum entry size is 24 inches by 24 inches, not including matting
- Preparing Artwork for Entry
- Divisions: The contest entries will be separated for judging into two categories: Student and Adult. Students are children from any of the participating schools and the community up to age 17 as of Sept 30, 2014.
- Entry Fee: There is no entry fee for this contest.
- Forms & Tags: Registration may be submitted online or when participants enter the park to have their canvas stamped. Tags will be distributed once the artwork is submitted. All participating artists must accurately fill out a registration form and obtain a stamp to ensure that they are entered in the contest. Entries without tags will not be judged. A registration duplicate should be attached to the top left corner of the back of the artwork.
- Materials needed: Participants must provide their own supplies and equipment, including art supplies, and if desired an easel, ready-made frame or mat.
- Recognition
Artists participating in this project will be featured in an exhibit at Gateway Park and may be featured in our online gallery. A total of 12 pieces will be recognized by being selected for inclusion in a calendar. In addition, the following prizes will be awarded:

- 2nd Place: $200
- 3rd Place: $100
- Honorable mentions $25 each

- Special recognition and $25
